In Wenger we trust!

Wenger given vote of confidence by Arsenal Chairman

ARSENAL have taken the unprecedented step of issuing a statement on Arsene Wenger’s future amid growing unrest among the club’s supporters. Gunners chairman Sir Chips Keswick has given support to under-fire Wenger and insisted the club and manager will decide on his future together. But for the first time Keswick has gone public to say the decision on whether Wenger stays or goes will be made by the board as well as the Frenchman.

Keswick said:  “We are fully aware of the attention currently focused on the club and understand the debate. “We respect that fans are entitled to their different individual opinions but we will always run this great football club with its best long-term interests at heart. “Arsène has a contract until the end of the season.

Any decisions will be made by us mutually and communicated at the right time in the right way.” Wenger has faced a barrage of criticism in recent weeks after Arsenal’s season collapse around them as they slipped out of the Premier League title race and crashed out of the Champions League.

The 67-year-old is still deciding whether he wants to sign a new deal to extend his 21-year-reign at the club despite strengthening calls for him to retire. Until now there had been no communication from the boardroom at the Emirates, with Wenger seemingly the only man making the decision over his future. That void has allowed a growing movement among Arsenal supporters to mobilise calling for Wenger to quit at the end of the season.
